【Product Description】In the Pacific War, which began in 1941, aircraft carriers and their embarked aircraft took center stage in naval warfare.
However, in conditions where aircraft could not operate—such as at night or during inclement weather—surface combatants like battleships, cruisers, and destroyers would clash, utilizing their cannons and torpedoes.
*Solomon Night Raid* (Solomon Yashū-sen) is a simulation wargame that recreates surface engagements between the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Allied navies during World War II, with a scale of 5 minutes per turn and one unit representing a single ship.
The game’s defining feature is its successful balance of high precision and excellent playability.
Gunfire is resolved on a shell-by-shell basis, and torpedo attacks are handled torpedo-by-torpedo; factors such as gun caliber, armor thickness, and the angle of impact are all incorporated into the rules. Consequently, variables like range and ship type directly influence the outcome, capturing the intense, high-stakes nature of surface combat.
At the same time, the system skillfully integrates detailed tactical-level rules with a fleet command structure; the procedures are streamlined, ensuring that key decisions always remain in the hands of the player.
As a result, most scenarios can be completed in under an hour (depending on the specific scenario), allowing for repeated, engaging sessions of detailed fleet combat.
The game includes 16 scenarios, covering a wide range of iconic surface engagements from the Pacific War, including the battles around Guadalcanal, the Central Solomons, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
This title is designed for those who:
・Wish to experience naval gunfire and torpedo attacks as a "process" rather than just an "outcome."
・Find large-scale naval wargames too cumbersome or overwhelming.
・Do not want a game that relies on excessive simplification.
While it may not be the right choice for those seeking flashy spectacle or multiplayer-focused gameplay, it is an ideal title for players who want to experience intense, high-density fleet combat within a concise timeframe. "Solomon Night Battles" is the definitive surface fleet combat simulation—offering a highly playable experience while maintaining uncompromising precision.
