【Product Description】 In the summer of 1942, the island of Malta—a pivotal strategic point in the Mediterranean theater—faced a dire crisis. Subjected to relentless Axis bombing and attacks on its maritime supply lines, the island was struggling to receive essential reinforcements. Had the Axis powers launched an airborne and amphibious assault at that critical juncture, Malta might well have fallen; however, for various reasons, the invasion never materialized.
"Operazione C3: The hypothetical invasion of Malta, 1942" allows players to explore this "what-if" scenario: What would have happened had an invasion of Malta actually taken place?
This title is an operational-tactical level game designed by Andrea Brusati, an up-and-coming Italian game designer.
Also included is "Malta on the Blink: Battle for the Mediterranean 1942" a game recreating the Mediterranean campaign from March to August 1942. Although it is a "mini-game"—featuring an A4-sized map and just 54 counters—it offers players a genuine strategic challenge.
During the first half of 1942, with assistance from the Luftwaffe, Italy managed to temporarily secure naval supremacy in the Mediterranean. If you were "Il Duce," would you order an invasion of Malta? Or would you place your hopes on the forces in Africa, prioritizing the transport of supplies needed to advance all the way to Alexandria?
This issue also features articles on the Malta invasion and hypothetical wargaming, various game introductions, an interview with Brian Train, an overview of the game "Land & Freedom," details on the 5th and 11th Area Armies (and other units) that fought in the Soviet-Japanese War, anecdotes from the Battle of Leyte, and more.
