【Product Description】The appendix game, "DAK the Desert II," is the second edition of the operational-level wargame from the North African campaign of World War II, originally included in the old GJ51 issue. It depicts the fierce battles between General Rommel's German Africa Corps (Deutsches Afrikakorps) and the Italian army against the British 8th Army.
The game's greatest feature is that players can freely configure the composition of each division by selecting the divisional headquarters, tank units, artillery units, infantry units, trucks, and supplies they send to North Africa.
This allows for the creation of not only balanced combined arms units, but also specialized units such as tank-centered units for enhanced striking power, infantry-centered units for defensive purposes, and artillery-centered units for long-range combat. Furthermore, because players must personally transport the landed supplies to the front lines by truck, players can experience not only the tension of mobile warfare but also the importance of challenging logistical management.
Furthermore, each player receives a different amount of commands each turn, and can perform movements and attacks based on the number of commands received. However, the German army has an advantage in the number of commands they receive, which allows the game to quickly recreate the dynamism and fluid development of the North African campaign with a simple system.
In particular, for this reprint, the determination of the number of commands each player receives has been changed from dice roll to chit drawing.
As an excellent game that allows players to easily experience the dynamism of the North African front, it is one of the most popular titles included in this magazine.
This magazine's articles include introductions to various games about the North African campaign, designer's notes and player's notes for "DAK the Desert II," an overview of the history of the German Africa Corps, a replay comic, and various serials.
