【Product Description】 "Battle of the Wilderness: Gaining the Initiative, May 5-6, 1864" is one of the games included in the quadrigame "Blue & Gray II," released by SPI in 1975. It is a competitive wargame that simulates a battle that took place in the American Civil War.
This battle, which marked the final stages of the Civil War, took place from May 5th to 7th, 1864, and is known as the battle between Union Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
The battle was a bloody and attritional battle, and the battle itself is considered to have ended in a tactical draw.
This game uses the same basic rules as the previous title, "Blue & Gray," but can be played by adding specialized rules for each battlefield. It is a smart and compact operational-level game in which the number of units handled by each side is not too large for either side to handle.
This magazine's articles include historical notes and tutorial reports for "Battle of the Wilderness," a play guide for "Blue & Gray," historical background for "Mukden," operational research for "Operation Typhoon," and additional scenarios for the "F-16 New Edition."
